Kedah cilvil servants required to pay zakat via salary deductions from next year

Civil servants and those working in government agencies will be required to pay zakat (tithe) through salary deductions starting this year.

This was announced today by the Sultan of Kedah Sultan Abdul Halim Muadzam Shah.

“This will serve as an example for the private sector to do the same,” Sultan Abdul Halim who is also the State religious leader said when he launched the Maulidur Rasul celebrations to mark the birthday of Prophet Muhammad.

Also present were Sultanah Haminah Hamidun and Menteri Besar Azizan Abdul Razak.

The Sultan said officers from the Kedah Zakat department would be given the authority to collect zakat fitrah in the state.
He urged the Muslim ummah to continually support the state Islamic department while promoting good moral pratices.
